Flowers is an original contemporary artwork by TOMOYA, created across two square canvases that connect to form one continuous composition.
The work presents an abstract arrangement of flowers in shades of blue and white, created with thick layers of paint, expressive brushwork, and mixed media techniques.
Each canvas functions as an individual composition while connecting visually with the other. The flowers, colors, and gestures continue across the central divide, creating one expansive field of flowers when the two canvases are displayed together.
The composition focuses on different shades of blue, from vivid and deeper tones to softer blues, combined with white and subtle gray. These colors create a sense of calmness, depth, transparency, and natural vitality.
Rather than realistically reproducing individual flowers, TOMOYA uses thick impasto, layered paint, and expressive marks to capture the presence and impression of flowers.
The heavily built-up paint gives the petals a sculptural quality, while the changing thickness of the surface creates subtle variations in light and shadow.
The central divide between the two square canvases is intentionally incorporated into the composition. The forms and gestures flow across both sides, allowing the two separate canvases to function visually as one artwork.
For TOMOYA, flowers serve as a starting point for exploring color, texture, movement, and the essence of natural forms.
The expansive arrangement of blue flowers creates a balance between tranquility and energy, transforming a familiar floral subject into a contemporary abstract artwork.
